What’s in a Name?
I’ve received a lot of questions recently about how we chose Charlotte-Amélie’s first name, so to save me some repetition I thought it savvy to put this on the blog for those who might be interested in knowing.
In the process of choosing Charlotte-Amélie’s name, Rachel and I came to two conclusions, first that we both liked ‘Charlotte’, and second that I really wanted to have a French influence on her name in some way (French was after all my first language, well, apart from Bobo!). Thus we settled on and really love her first name that she now has, a double-barrel (hyphenated)name…Charlotte-Amélie. Also the capital city of one of the islands we were at during our Honeymoon was called Charlotte Amalie (German Spelling). It just really rolled off the tongue and was so pretty…it just made sense. So we decided Charlotte-Amélie would be her first name.
Her middle name we had settled on long before coming to a decision on her first. I used to (and still do) buy Rachel “Charlotte” Roses all the time and we’ve always liked the name Rose as a middle name. Hence, we gave her the middle name Rose.
‘Amélie’ is not one of two middle names… but in fact, on her birth certificate, her Christian Name / Given Name is “Charlotte Amelie” and Rose is her Middle name. It really doesn’t matter if you forget where to put the accent, Or even if you put it on there. We just want to make sure people don’t think Amelie is her middle name, and start calling her Charlotte instead. (For a quick tip though, on most keyboards, pressing Alt+ 1-3-0 on the number keypad, can get you a “é.”)
It’s not difficult at all to pronounce, “Ah-meh-lee.”
We love our little Charlotte-Amélie, and look forward to a lot of happy years with her, and perhaps some brothers or sisters too?
