Rachel Marta…

I was born in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, U.K. I attended Carrick Grammar, and my days there I remember fondly... I developed a passion for many things - from Shakespeare to Photography! I later lived in Stirling, Scotland for three years as I completed my BA Degree in Film & Media Studies & English Literature, and also spent a year studying abroad in Lawrence, Kansas.

In all the places I've lived, studied at, and worked, I have gained precious friendships and enjoyed wonderful experiences.

Before coming to Chicago to complete a Masters degree and work in Radio, I lived in Ecuador, South America ...and it was while there that I came across an interesting American-African chap. Daniel was born in Ferkessédougou, Côte d'Ivoire... we met in a Radio studio in Quito...he followed me to Chicago... and basically he hasn't left my side since! Nice! He even learnt some Shakespeare for me - is that dedication - or what?! ;o) He proposed on top of the Eiffel Tower, and we were married exactly a year later, on August 2nd, 2004.

After three years working as a Radio Producer and Reporter in Quito, I arrived in Chicago, started working at WMBI Radio, finished my Masters.... then started working at Columbia College Chicago. I continued to work part-time as a Producer/co-host, and also started teaching writing classes in the English Department at Columbia. Meanwhile, Dan completed his 2nd degree in Chicago, in Radio, and now works as a Senior Technical Producer for WMBI.

In other news.... Hamlet & Ophelia (our little Maltese doggies) had four more babies (June 2007), Churchill, Maggie Thatcher, Portia & Macbeth. Previously, in 2006, Ophelia gave birth to Dickens & Scarlett O'Hara.

Update... We now have a precious little daughter, born 06.07.08. Her name is Charlotte-Amélie Rose Royle. Update #2... Elliott Alexander Daniel Royle was born on 03.12.10. Update #3... Juliette Elodie Rachelle Royle was born on 10.04.12.

Heaven Knows we should never be ashamed of our tears, for they are as rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlaying our hardened hearts.

After three years working as a Radio Producer and host for HCJB, I learnt many things, but one of the most important was that “God’s Timing is Always Perfect.”
